We have settled in quite nicely here at Tortugal Marina. The restaurant is good, internet fast, laundry is done for you, and the showers/WC's very nice. All good things. There is a small floating raft and good swimming here, but we have been so busy, none of us has had time to indulge.
Yesterday we hired a guy from the marina with a van, to take us all to some nearby Mayan ruins, Quirigua, about an hour away. We left at 8:00 a.m. via dinghy and met him at another marina in Fronteras. The drive was scenic and the highways were, and are, well maintained. The ruins are mostly, well preserved large stone carvings, set in a wonderfully quiet lush tropical setting. There was also an interesting Jade museum there, and of course...a gift shop. We made it in and out, just before the tour buses arrived...perfect.
We lunched at the marina where the dinghy's were left. After a quiet afternoon, booking flights home etc, we had a quiet dinner put together by Ann, Kathie and the Marina...a good group effort.
Today we are making good progress putting the boat to "bed" and organizing all the things that go along with that. The weather is rainy and overcast, so it's a good day for chores.
